Mobile Deposit Capture, sometimes known as Mobile Check Deposit, is a convenient and secure way to deposit checks directly into your Freedom checking or savings account using your smartphone or tablet.
Remote Deposit Capture offers the convenience of depositing checks anytime, anywhere with your mobile device, removing the need to visit a physical branch.

To be eligible for Freedom’s Mobile Deposit Capture, you must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a member for at least 30 days.
- Registered for online banking.
- Must not be delinquent on any loans or credit cards.
- Must not be overdrawn in any accounts.
- Cannot have excessive returned items (NSF’s)
To check if your account is eligible for Mobile Deposit, log into our app via your phone or tablet and tap on the “Deposit” icon. If you don’t receive an ineligibility message, you are eligible for Mobile Deposit.
The following types of checks are NOT eligible for Remote Deposit Capture:
- Foreign checks or drafts
- Post Dated checks
- Previously deposited checks
- Checks payable to a third party
- Traveler’s checks
- U.S. Postal Money Orders
- Money Orders
- Savings Bonds
- Lottery or Prize winnings
For your check to process, the back of the check must include your signature and in print (no cursive, please) “FOR MOBILE DEPOSIT ONLY AT FREEDOM FCU” below your signature.
Please note, some checks will have a small box printed on the back of the check that says mobile deposit. Checking off this box is not sufficient endorsement. “FOR MOBILE DEPOSIT ONLY AT FREEDOM FCU” must still be legibly printed below your signature.
Mobile Deposit Capture is free for most members. There is a small fee for some business members.
- Login to Mobile Banking
- Tap the Deposit icon
- Enter the amount of the check
- Select the account to deposit the check
- Take a picture of the front of the check
- Take a picture of the back of the check
- Review the check amount and the pictures
- Click Submit
Store the original check(s) in a secure location for 180 days to ensure Freedom and the issuing institution honors the check. After 180 days, shred the check or otherwise destroy the check in an acceptable manner.
The reasons below could have caused the check to not be accepted.
- The picture is not clear
- The check amount could not be read
- The check number could not be read
- The endorsement on the back of the check is missing or incorrect
- The check amount entered does not match the actual check amount
- The MICR line* may not be clear or may have been cropped in the picture
If any of these errors occur, you can retake the picture.
- Make sure that you place the check on a flat, dark colored, well-lit, not reflective surface
- Ensure the top, bottom and side edges of the check are visible in your camera preview window prior to taking the picture
- Ensure the endorsement is legible and correct
*MICR Line = A Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) line is a set of numbers and characters printed at the bottom of a check.
Mobile deposits received before 4pm EST on a business day will be posted to your account the same day. Mobile deposits after 4pm on a business day will be credited to your account on the following business day.
Once your submitted deposit has been approved, all checks are subject to a one business day hold. Freedom FCU reserves the right to place an extended hold on any deposit believed necessary.
In this instance, you have two options:
- Wait for your limit to reset (Daily or 30-day)
- Visit one of our branches or a Freedom ATM to deposit
To view your limits, follow these steps:
- Login to Mobile Banking
- Click on the Deposit icon.
- Under the field for check amount, it says, “Deposit Limits” followed by an information icon.
- Click on the information icon, your daily and 30-day limits will populate.
